Breakfast and departure to Gulf of Spezia, called the Gulf of Poets because of its attraction to some of the world’s most celebrated poets who came and even died here. First stop in Lerici, in the middle of a small natural inlet. A seafaring village of ancient origin, it was also a military outpost, first disputed by the Pisans, then by the Genoese, as evidenced by its Castle which stands on a rocky promontory, in a strategic position. Admire this romantic village rich in history which have inspired writers such as Byron, Shelley, Virginia Woolf, Gabriele d’Annunzio. Time to explore the myriad of twisting lanes of the old town strolling to the 12th century castle to discover a beautiful panorama with views towards Portovenere and the offshore islands. Continue then towards Portovenere, a picturesque seaside village dating back to Roman times, situated on a rocky promontory facing the sea and the is starting from Lerici continuing with the famous Portovenere. Lunch on your own to taste local food. In the afternoon continue to The Gulf of La Spezia (also called the Gulf of Poets) is a wide and deep inlet of the Ligurian Sea coast. The Gulf takes its name from the city of La Spezia, located in a central position at the bottom of the gulf itself. Enjoy a boat tour of the 3 islands of Palmaria, Tino and Tinetto. On the way back, stop in La Spezia. The beauty of the coast and the maritime villages are, undoubtedly, the main attraction of the area; however, La Spezia has in store a few surprises. Another scenic gem can be admired from Castello di San Giorgio, renovated over time and recently restored to house the Museo Civico Formentini and its interesting archaeological collection.
