Without a doubt, the political, religious and monumental centre of the city is Piazza del Duomo, overlooked by splendid frescoes painted noble palaces such as the "Case Cazuffi-Rella”. In this square, where S. Vigilio was buried, stands the homonyms Cathedral of San Vigilio, in Romanesque style, built in 1212 at the behest of Bishop Federico Vanga and where all the formal sessions of the Council of Trent were held. The Praetorian Palace and the crenelated 13th century Torre Vanga form, together with the Cathedral, a spectacular complex that dominates the square, also adorned with the 18th century Neptune Fountain. The Castello del Buonconsiglio, composed of a series of buildings from different periods, is also a sight to behold. The castle, residence of the bishops of Trento from the 13th to the end of the 18th century, now houses several museums. Lunch on your own to taste local food. BOLZANO – MERAN

Breakfast and departure to Bolzano. Lying in a basin and surrounded by mountains, Bolzano is a city full of charm, a meeting point of two different cultures: the Mediterranean and Central European, as is evident from its architecture, the alleys, arches and squares of its historic center. Among the main monuments, the Cathedral stands out with its Gothic bell tower with its pierced spire, considered the most beautiful in the region. The historical and wide Piazza Walther is transformed, during the Christmas period, into a magical and suggestive space: it hosts the traditional Christmas Market with its characteristic wooden houses offering decorations, handicrafts and gastronomic specialties, among lights, melodies and fragrances. Continue then with the extraordinary visit of Ötzi and his artifacts, which have been exhibited at the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology since 1998. Experience Ötzi almost like a time traveler. The permanent exhibition at the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology is dedicated entirely to Ötzi, the Iceman. It is housed on three floors of the Museum and displays everything of interest about the world’s most famous glacier mummy. Lunch on your own in local restaurant. In the afternoon reach the spa town of Merano. Explore the city and the crossroads between the majesty of the Alps and the allure of the South: a place where the barrenness of high mountain terrain is canceled out by lush Mediterranean vegetation. LAKE BRAIES – THREE PEEKS OF LAVAREDO (Summer Only)

Breakfast and departure to Lake Braies, known as the “Pearl among Dolomite lakes”, which is located in a unique position in the Braies Dolomites. The origin of Lake Braies - “Pragser Wildsee” in German, “Lago di Braies” in Italian - is referable to a reservoir dam, consequence of a mudflow. It is situated at almost 1,500 m a.s.l. in the beautiful Valle di Braies, a side valley of the Val Pusteria valley. In the mythological world Lake Braies has got an important role to play. According to legends, at the south end of the lake, where Mt. Croda del Becco (2,810 m a.s.l.) is situated, there was the gate to the Fanes underworld. That gate could be reached only with a boat ride. This is also why the Ladin name of the Croda del Becco is “Sass dla Porta”, which means “Gate Mountain”. Proceed to 3 Cime di Lavaredo area and lunch on your own to taste local food. After lunch be ready for a great mountain excursion with your Alpine Tour Guide to the “Tre Cime di Lavaredo”. VAL DI NON – LAKE TOVEL – SAN ROMEDIO – CASTLE THUN

Breakfast and departure to Val di Non, a vast fruit orchard in the heart of north-western Trentino. The valley centre  with the artificial lake of Santa Giustina is surrounded by green hills with castles immersed in fruit orchard and forests: ancient and fascinating mansions that are definitely worth a visit. Reach Lago di Tovel, Trentino’s largest natural lake, famous for amazingly clear waters, with beautiful shades of green and blue, and a spectacular backdrop of soaring, craggy mountains. Up until the 1960s, Tovel Lake was famous throughout Italy and Europe for another reason: every summer, its waters would turn red. In fact, Tovel Lake was also known as the ‘Red Lake’. Of course this had led to the flourishing of many legends; the most popular involves Princess Tresenga, the daughter of the last king of Ragoli. After her father’s death, many suitors wanted to marry her to obtain control over her kingdom, but she refused them all. One of them, Lavinto from Tuenno, did not give up and sent an army against Ragoli to convince Tresenga to marry him. To no avail. Tresenga asked her people if they preferred to be subjugated to the arrogant king of Tuenno, or if they preferred to fight, risking their lives, and the people chose the second option. The battle took place on the shores of Tovel Lake, whose waters, at the end of the day, had turned red due to all the blood that was spilled. Ragoli was defeated and Tresenga was killed, and the waters were said to turn red to honor the courage of the Ragoli people. Still today, the princess is said to sit on the lake shore and cry about the sad fate of her people. Continue to the famous Saint Romedius Sanctuary, one of the most extraordinary shrines in Europe, this place of pure spirituality is perched on a cliff overlooking the stream Rio S. Romedio. Lunch on your own to taste local food. In the afternoon reach Castle Thun, one of the most prestigious cultural and museum centers in the whole Alpine region. Emblem of the ancient glories of one of the most powerful and richest Trentino families, the Tonos, with its undisputed beauty and importance Castel Thun still dominates on all the other manors of the Val di Non. A reflection of the centuries-long domination of this noble family on the Valley, the castle – that stands on a hill not far from the village of Vigo di Ton - testifies times of both past glory and decay. Back to your hotel, dinner on your own and overnight.
