ROME (ANCIENT & BAROQUE TOUR)

Breakfast and departure to visit Rome. Explore one of the most remarkable places to visit in Rome – the Colosseum and the Roman Forum. Enjoy a tour through the vast archaeological site where in 735 B.C., Ancient Rome was born. The picturesque tour begins with a visit to the most impressive monument of Ancient Rome - the Colosseum. Originally known as the Flavian Amphitheatre, it remains the largest amphitheater in the world. A symbol of the Eternal City, the Colosseum inspires and awes, affirming the greatness and splendor of Ancient Rome. Next stop is the Roman Forum, a valley which rests between the Palatine Hill and Capitoline Hill. The Forum signified the political, religious and commercial center of the city and it is here, lying between glorious temples. Reach the Campidoglio, sharing some fascinating history and secrets that will entertain you along the way. Lunch on your own to taste local food. In the afternoon stroll through the streets and alleys of the city centre to visit the most famous squares, fountains and palaces of the baroque art. Once a stadium for the athletic games, today Piazza Navona is called the “sitting room” of Rome. Here people can sit at one of the cafes and sip wine while looking at the eternal beauty of the church of St. Agnes, built by Borromini, and of the fountain of the Four Rivers, masterpiece by Bernini. The church of St. Louis of the French, merely a couple of blocks away, houses three magnificent paintings by Caravaggio, the first modern painter. On the way there you cannot miss the Pantheon, masterpiece of the Roman engineering and architecture. Built as a pagan temple for all the Gods, today serves as a catholic church and has the widest dome in cement ever built. Admire then the most famous fountain in the world: the Trevi fountain. Here, in the hope of coming back to Rome again, the tourists throw their coins at the feet of the statue of Neptune on his oyster shell. Finally reach the Spanish steps, the beautiful staircase in Rococo’ style links the church of Trinità dei Monti with the square below where the most important fashion brands show their newest creations on shining windows. Back to your hotel, dinner on your own and overnight.

ROME (CHRISTIAN & CATACOMBS TOUR) - VATICAN

Breakfast and departure to visit the Christian side of Rome. Visit the charming little church of St Peter’s in Chains. Within its walls we'll meet one of Michelangelo’s most celebrated statues, the Moses. From here, move on to the Old Appian way to see one of the Christian Catacombs. The catacombs are one of the most fascinating witnesses of early Christianity in ancient Rome: these underground burials and sites of worship of the first Christians allow you to walk back in time and are packed with fascinating ruins.  Along the Appian way admire and feel the many traces of Ancient Rome glory. Lunch on your own to taste local food. In the afternoon discover a treasure trove of art, history and religion: the Vatican City. The Vatican Museum’s art collection, one the most important in the world, houses the wealthiest privately owned collection of masterpieces, showcased in rooms with walls decorated by Raffaello. The real masterpiece is Michelangelo’s painting of the Sistine Chapel, which revolutionized the world’s idea of art. The Sistine chapel is still shaping the future of the Papacy: this is where the cardinals lock themselves in to elect a new Pope after the former one has passed away. Our Vatican tour ends with the tour of St. Peter’s Basilica, the largest church in the world. The magnificent and breath-taking complex spans back to 4th century BC, when it was commissioned by Emperor Constantine, though the new cathedral took over 100 years and all of Italy’s greatest artists to build. We will admire here Michelangelo’s Cupola, his famous Pietà and Bernini’s amazing bronze Baldacchino. Back to your hotel, dinner on your own and overnight.

The Emperor Hadrian conceived a countryside dwelling here that would by normal standards be considered a town. A gigantic complex with underground service passages big enough for vehicles, the Villa incorporates lakes, fountains, libraries, baths, temples and gardens.
